Infrared (IR) spectroscopy is a chemical analytical technique that detects the vibration characteristics of chemical functional groups in a sample. When infrared light interacts with a molecule, chemical bonds will stretch, contract and bend. As a result, chemical functional groups tends to adsorb infrared radiation in specific wavenumber ranges and thus can be used for molecular identification.
- Spectral range: ~600-6000 cm-1.
- Two detector options: DLaTGS detector designed to work at room temperature, and an MCT 315 detector which is liquid nitrogen cooled and about 30% more sensitive than the DLaTGS.
